The Golden Mile update:
We vaccinated the birds for Rota on the 2nd of February, two weeks later we noticed several birds showing Rota symptoms. After a few days the birds were looking fine, so we let the birds out for exercise and when they timed in, we noticed we were 13 birds down. Thinking they may have missed scanning as they went over the antenna fairly fast, when we let the birds out the next morning and a batch of around 75 birds went extremely high in the air in small circles and never returned. (A fly away) We have had about 400 go up and fly on previous days, without any problems. We do have a mother falcon and 2 babies harassing the flock on a regular basis.
Since this has happened, we have had them in lockdown.
We have followed a vet program from the beginning and still we have had a regular stream of birds going light and passing away from day 1. About 46 so far, we have sent birds to our vet here Dr Anne Fowler for testing and await the results. We will keep you updated on the results. We were due to do a second PMV vaccine but thought we would wait until the birds looked a little better. Looking in the cage now 96% of the birds are in good health. We have about 8 in sick bay (separate cage) and also 3 injured birds from falcons.
We are genuinely sorry for the owners who have lost birds. I will put up a list of birds as soon as i can.
It is hard to deliver the news but better coming from us than innuendos.
Please be assured we are doing what is best for the birds. Tony and helpers.
