Rod Stasinowsky

For those people thinking of giving away Pigeon Racing due to lack of success, this article on Rod Stasinowsky of Daw Park is for you.

Rod is only 34 years old and did not take up Pigeon Racing until 1995. He and his Brother Daryl started at the same time.

They originally got some Birds from Adrian Toohey of Albert Park and among them was an old Cock Bird of Blanden Bloodlines. His progeny gave them a feel for what a good Bird should be like.

Next was an investment of several thousand dollars on Imported Birds. Wrong move, says Rod. Probably due to the conditions and training methods. Out they went.

Then Rod bought a John Pryor video and watched it until the tape wore out. He liked what he saw and was determined to follow Pryor's methods.

Next was a $500 investment in a Rod Kakoschke Cock Bird off of his Rawlinna Winner. This time it was money well spent.

Rod bred up a team of Kakoschke, Blandens & Goodgers and then set about employing Pryor's methods of 300 to 400 kilometres training per week.

At the end of 2002 he earmarked 16 Birds for Alice Springs 2003.

Keeping them to only five or so Races but with plenty of Training, Rod finished with 14 on Basketing Night.

He then waited on Race-day, knowing his theory was right.

And in they came Ist, 3rd, I lth, 17th & 27th with only 34 clocked on the day. Another, which he regrettably decided not to clock would have been 33rd. It was a truly splendid effort and a fitting reward for planning and execution.

Rod Stasinowsky has earmarked 19 for next year including two Cocks. Look Out!
