1st Booroorban 3-bird

Frank Magro

Gawler South flyer Frank Magro fulfilles a life time ambition when his two year old hen won the Booroorban 3-bird special.

Frank had been in piegons since starting up as a 19 year old back in Parkside under the tutelage of Jim Brown and Terry Castle.

He shifted to his new address near the Gawler racecourse about 10 years ago and his hen's win made up for some near misses in previous years.

Frank believes the Gawler area has become the place to be in recent years but he's quick to point out that there are some very serious flyers living up the hill from his place.

Frank's winner had shown him it was above average in the 2002 season when it forced its way into the clock in the harder races from Cooper Pedy and Marla. Another close relation also gave notice of a big win in the same season.

In 2003, Frank switched his Booroorban winner from the North to the East line due to the bird's obvious liking for harder races and he immediately noticed the right signs in a club race.

With this in mind, she was an automatic choice for the Booroorban special.

His winning hen is a daughter of 4th SAHPA Maria and it contains the bloodlines of John Pryor, Maurice Kakoschke and Allen Goodger. Frank also crossed in a family of Jan Aardens that have shown up on hard days.

Frank Magro tosses twice a week with the long toss in the Sunday. If the birds are racing they don't go to a mid-week shorter toss.

In 2003 he fed peas in the morning and wheat at night. In 2004 he's anticipating a few more treats with light mixes.
